About China Orchid

For nearly 50 years, China Orchid has been a part of the New Orleans community, serving generations of local families and becoming one of the neighborhood’s favorite Chinese restaurants. Today, China Orchid is proudly led by its fourth owner, Sophia Chen, who comes from Fujian in southeastern China, a coastal region just across the Taiwan Strait. Sophia brings her own culinary heritage and love of authentic Chinese flavors to New Orleans while continuing the traditions that have made China Orchid a local favorite for decades.

At China Orchid, we believe great Chinese food should be fresh, fast, and flavorful. We prepare our dishes fresh with quality ingredients, serve them quickly, and never compromise on flavor. Our menu brings together the best of old and new. We proudly continue serving the classic American-Chinese favorites our longtime customers have loved for decades, while introducing authentic Sichuan and Taiwanese flavors. And we’re still evolving. Inspired by our roots in southeastern China, we’re continuously exploring new dishes and new ways to bring the authentic flavors of southern China and its rich culinary traditions to New Orleans. For us, China Orchid is more than a restaurant—it’s a bridge between cultures and generations.

We want our longtime guests to always find the familiar dishes they love, while giving everyone the opportunity to discover something new and experience more of the flavors, traditions, and food culture of China. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch, picking up dinner, or sitting down with family and friends, you can always expect the same thing: fresh food, fast service, and flavors worth coming back for. After nearly five decades, we’re proud to carry China Orchid’s story forward—honoring what came before while bringing something new to the table.

Course 1

Shrimp Toast

100% ground Fresh shrimp + water chestnut .

We spread a generous layer of seasoned minced shrimp over slices of bread and fry them until the edges turn golden and crisp. Each order comes with six pieces, crunchy on the outside with a tender, savory shrimp layer on top. It's hot, easy to share and hard to stop at one, whether you order it as a snack, a starter or with a cold drink from the bar.

Course 2

Popcorn Chicken with Crispy Basil

We marinate bite-sized chicken, give it a light coating and fry it until golden and crunchy. Whole basil leaves go into the fryer with it and come out crisp and fragrant. A dusting of savory pepper salt finishes it off. It's hot, addictive and easy to share, whether you order it as a snack, a starter or with a cold drink from the bar.

Course 3

Beef Chow Fun

Wide rice noodles and tender slices of beef are tossed over roaring heat with bean sprouts, scallions and a rich soy sauce. The noodles pick up a light smoky char and stay soft and springy. Every strand is evenly coated and full of wok hei, so this Cantonese classic is both filling and full of flavor.

Wok-Fired Classics,
Crafted for Every Table

Good Chinese cooking starts with a hot wok and fresh ingredients, and that's how we cook at China Orchid. We slice our meats and prep our vegetables every day, make our sauces in-house, and cook each order over high heat so it keeps its color, aroma and crunch. Whether you order a light egg drop soup or a sizzling platter, we want every dish to taste clean and bright and to leave you satisfied.

Our house-made chow-chow features our specially seasoned roasted char siu, combined with plump fresh shrimp, green onions and onions. Bursting with rich, juicy flavors, this is one of our restaurant’s most iconic appetizers, loved by countless customers. We invite you to try this fan favorite!
